pasta @ lupa

What’s this? A post with no photo? Sorry about that. I didn’t much feel like taking out my camera during lunch with Matthew Mead today at one of my favorite restaurants, Lupa. It’s one of many restaurants in the city owned by Mario Batali, and while I’m not sure if Mario shows up there to cook, I can say that I see him around the neighborhood all the time. Frankly, I’m not too concerned about whether or not Mario shows up in person, because this is a great dining spot. I was just reading some rants on the Web about Lupa and trying to understand how someone could rate the food here a “1” on a scale of 1 to 5. Is that reviewer always so grumpy? Maybe he/she needs to start drinking more red wine. Or maybe the democratic state of the Web isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. For the record, I never eat meat at Lupa. The pasta and vegetable dishes are so simple and perfect, why bother? Everything I eat at Lupa seems like food I could cook at home myself, and that adds to the charm. I suppose if I thought about the economics of it, I’d just cook at home, but this was a business lunch date. More to come about Matthew Mead, but check out his pretty Web site in the meanwhile. As for the weather in NYC today, upper 60’s in February, it’s kind of creepy. I hate to complain, but something just doesn’t feel right, sort of like the world is turned upside down.
