“Hot Asian Buns”… that just makes me laugh. Wow Bao is the first place I ate at during my trip to Chicago. I’d just checked into the hotel, and I was kind of starving. I saw this place across the street by the El train and got pretty excited. Fast food buns — why don’t they have that in NYC?
They have a great lunch special, 2 buns and noodles or salad on the side. I got cold sesame noodles. Speaking of which, this woman came up to the counter when I was paying and said, “I was really confused and had no idea what I was ordering, but these noodles are cold.” And the staff was like, “Umm, yeah, they’re supposed to be cold.” You gotta love it when you see people like that, who have never tried something as commonplace (at least to foodies like me) as sesame noodles. Anyway, enough with the food snobbery. The buns were great, especially the edamame one I got, totally meatless. Usually buns are filled with meat, so it was nice to see a vegetarian option. It was a little pricey for a quick lunch, but I’d still recommend it.
