sticky sticky


It was raining out the morning I visited Flour Bakery in Boston’s South End, but it would take a lot more than that to get me down. It being Sunday morning, the bakery was packed with fans lining up for chef/owner Joanne Chang’s treats. (Actually, I’m told it’s crowded all the time.) I tried more food that day than I care to mention, but the highlights had to be the sticky buns and these creme-filled doughnuts.

I’d seen an episode of “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” on Food Network about the sticky buns, so I guess I was somewhat prepared for how good they were. Bobby raved about them, saying they were the best in America… no small praise. I’d have to agree with Bobby. The sticky buns were outrageously good and almost impossibly light. And this is going to sound crazy, but I’m not a fan of creme-filled doughnuts in general. Well, one bite of the doughnut in the pic above and my mind was changed forever. One closing thought — a visit to Flour without tasting their B.L.T. would be a serious mistake.
