I was waiting for my girlfriend while she was getting her haircut at Commune in Brooklyn, and I was doing something I never do — reading GQ magazine. Really, who reads GQ anymore? I used to subscribe, when I was about 14 years old. Anyway, I spotted an article about Chicken Milanese, but what really struck me was the accompanying photo. My first reaction was omg, they totally ripped off one of my books when they styled their photo. The only thing is, the book I’m talking about, The California Pizza Kitchen Family Cookbook, only just released to stores last week. I worked on my photo about 9 months ago, and I’m guessing that GQ did their shoot 4 or 5 months ago. So the verdict is, nobody ripped off anybody. But see for yourself. The photo I art directed with photographer Lucy Schaeffer is on the left, and the GQ photo is on the right. Hmmm.
Anyway, if I’m going to talk about that one photo, then I should probably go ahead show off some more. Like I said, the gorgeous food photos are by Lucy Schaeffer. And like I also said, The California Pizza Kitchen Family Cookbook is releasing now, due in stores in 2 to 3 weeks. Besides at Amazon, you’ll be able to buy it at B&N, select Costco stores, and of course at CPK restaurants nationwide. The authors will be, yeah yeah, you already know what I’m going to say… on the Today show in early September. Tune in!
