I haven’t been writing this week because I’ve been on a photoshoot for a cool book I’m doing with Ellie Krieger, but more to come about that soon. James Villas told me about his piece on chicken breast in the Saveur top-100 issue. I was surprised to see Parisian Home Cooking at #19 on the list too. Yes, it’s a great book, but I edited it back in 1999, and I’m not even sure the book is in print anymore.
Reading this piece really took me back. As you may know, the author, Michael Roberts, passed away a few years ago. I consider it an honor and a privilege to have worked with him. He was based in Los Angeles, but I traveled out to see him once. I’m so glad I did. He kept me captivated throughout our dinner. It’s a night I’m unlikely to forget. Better late than never — let this be my tribute to Michael. He’s sorely missed. And fortunately for everyone, it looks like you can still get the book on Amazon.
