Note: This drawing is now closed. As you may have seen on the Today Show, the new Ellie Krieger cookbook, Comfort Food Fix, is finally here. I was so lucky to be able to work with Ellie on set for the photoshoot about a year ago. Here is some of the behind-the-scenes action. That of course is Ellie posing for the cover image. Even though the cover photo is tightly cropped around Ellie, we shot this in someone’s home to give it a “real” feel, as opposed to shooting in a studio kitchen. Ellie is so comfortable in front of a camera — what a pro.
The brilliantly talented Quentin Bacon was the photographer — I wish I could work with him more often, but he’s always in demand. He shoots with such ease, and the results are always stunning.
Natasha Louise King did all of the propping. It was my first time working with Natasha, and I was really impressed. Everything was gorgeous.
These are just my snapshots from the shoot; you’ll have to pick up the real book to see Quentin’s fantastic photos. To answer your next question, yes, I tasted everything and oh my god, I don’t know how Ellie does it. This is food you love, made healthy of course, without any compromise to flavors and textures.
So who gets credit for the beautiful food styling? That would be Lori Powell. It was also my first time working with Lori, such a pleasure.
If you know and love Ellie Krieger, then of course you know she does the sweet stuff too. About the banana pudding, let’s just say I’d like to make a tub of it and dive right in. It’s that good. French toast sticks? Yum. The cookies? You definitely won’t miss the calories.
There’s food stylist Lori Powell again, this time with her lovely assistant Adeena Sussman, posing for a cute photo at the end of the shoot. What a great team they made. These two work really hard, but they know how to have fun too.
If you’re still reading this post, you’re in for a treat. First, the studio cats. Okay, so we were shooting in someone’s home, so I guess they were house cats. Yes, if you look closely, the one in the back has its arm wrapped around the other. So cool… And, if you live in the U.S. or Canada and post a comment, I’ll enter you into a drawing to win a copy of the book. A winner will be chosen at the end of Wednesday, October 26. Good luck!
all those props make me swoon! what a fun experience. I need to somehow show up at one of these 😉
Looks fantastic. I have two of Ellie’s cookbooks. I love her recipes!
Love the behind the scene posts!
What a cool opportunity. Ellie seems like one of the most genuine celebrity chefs out there. Lori Powell did an amazing job with the styling.
I foolishly read this post at lunchtime. What a mistake! Everything looks so delicious and now my mouth is watering. Justin, your job is fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
thanks… looking back, this did seem like a fun shoot (probably because it was)
Love your photos from the shoot! That’s one of the cookbooks I’m looking forward to right now, so it was fun to see your sneak peek! 🙂
beautiful!
Love living vicariously through your cookbook adventures. I have two of Ellie’s other cookbooks, can’t imagine what she came up with for a 3rd!
Love everything! Ellie is my absolute favorite- I recommend her to EVERYONE I know.
I loved this behind the scenes glimpse!
Love Ellie and I. can’t wait to pick up the book – or better yet, win a copy :-). Also, the “studio cats” are great!! Thanks for sharing.
I love Ellie! When she was first on the Food Network, the same episode kept being aired, but I watched it through with the same enthusiasm each time. She has such great energy. How exciting! And I love the shot with the cats hugging each other. They love each other.
i know… so sweet
All the photos of the food are really enticing, but you won me over with the cats. They have such beautiful markings and coy expressions on their faces.
Very cool and I am in love love with the props! Thanks for the behind the scenes look and great giveaway!
… what fun seeing behind the scene photos for “Comfort Food Fix”! Thanks for letting us in.
Ooo.. I’d love to win one of her books! She’s great
hey, thanks for visiting, Alda
Such beautiful looking food, hard to believe it’s all healthy. Guess I’ll have to check out Ellie’s new cookbook!
i love ellie’s recipes
Thanks so much for this post. It’s all very interesting to see the behind the scenes work that goes into producing a great cookbook. I’d love to win a copy. And those cats! Oh my, they’re gorgeous.
this is amazing, looks like such a fun, laid-back, shoot to be on. love the cats too
The beautiful pictures without the recipes was kind of a tease. The meatloaf, banana pudding and the cookies did look particularly comforting.
Looks like so much fun! I had to “pin” the photo of those cats. This photo shoot looks like a blast and I would love to get my hands on that book. Sounds amazing! Btw….ever need an assistant? You guys look like you are having a blast!
thanks. if photoshoots weren’t already so crowded, i’d consider sneaking in some of my blog buddies.
I love Ellie! The photo shoot looked like it was a lot of fun. Thanks for the behind the scenes views! Those cats are so adorable. I wish mine like each other that much!
Great food, well styled, and great photographs. Add the cats and, well, it doesn’t get much better than that. Looking forward to the cookbook!
I’d love a copy of this book, what talented people! Everything looks scrumptious.
Oh, my goodness. Yes, please.
Darn it, I guess I missed the giveaway… I love her recipes. I like to browse her recipes on foodnetwork. 🙂
I just bought the cookbook and absolutely love it – it’s definitely making my “Must Have” list for 2011 🙂 Thanks for the behind the scenes shots!
