Brooklyn bakery fun

I was over on Smith Street today to hang out with some friends and so Jen could check out the Paper Source store. Then Jackie mentioned Bien Cuit and how good their croissants are. The truth is, I’m not a big “croissant guy.” I have nothing against them, but I’m just not usually a fan.

They looked pretty good though, and Jackie was raving. They offer a variety — sweet and savory — so of course I ordered a ham and brie.

But it’s all about the almond croissant. It’s a bit of magic, all flakey on the outside and sort of gooey on the inside. It took a lot of willpower for me not to go back and order another. In fact it will take a lot of willpower for me not to go back again tomorrow.

But I had to save some room because I wanted to stop by One Girl Cookies too — such a cute spot.

The funny thing was that I didn’t even notice if they sold cookies. How could I with this gorgeous cupcake calling my name. They’ve got them in all kinds of flavors, but I suggest you pass by the pretty colors and go for one of these mocha-flavored ones.

And this is Jackie’s cat, Leo. What a sweetie. I’m not sure if he’s always so friendly, but he seemed right at home in Jen’s lap.

  1. I’ve been dreaming of finding the perfect flaky almond croissant that is baked to the edge of char and crisp. Your photographs are killing me sweetly.
